Actually this could be either iPhone or Mac:

I'm investigating switching to 2FA for my iPhones and Macs.

My first question is the need for SMS. I can easily set up the 2FA with SMS in the US, but what happens if I am traveling and have wifi only, due to not using the phone service overseas, or being in a poor cell area at home.

After setup are codes sent via SMS or wifi?

Will 2FA work for me with these possible conditions?

Second question is what happens if I need to login for some reason and a second iPhone/Mac is not with me at the moment? I assume I have to wait until a second computer/phone is available to reset my login?

SMS is only used if you don't have access to any devices attached to the account.
