Hi All,

I had to reinstall my 2020 MBP and when it had all finished I have the usual Macintosh HD on the desk top and one called Macintosh HD - data. This second one is empty. How do I show the Macintosh HD but not the data one?

thanks

Josh

That's normal when running Catalina. The "Macintosh HD" is your system info and is read only. The "Macintosh HD - Data" is your user data and you have read-write permissions for it. Are you sure it's empty?

Open Disk Utility app, click on View->Show All Devices. Post a picture of the info shown.

In Disk Utility, click on each Macintosh HD - Data and remove (Volume - button) the one that is 811KB in size.

Thank you. That was fantastic help. Really appreciated. I don't suppose you know why my Elgato thunderbolt dock utility won't unmount all the external drives on this Mac but did so on my 2018 13 inch MBP? ;)

Thanks again. totally great.

Maybe try a SMC reset and see that helps.
