I know these may be remedial but I cant figure it out at all...

1. How do I cut out areas of a shape im creating...like create a 'hole' in the shape to see the layer underneath it...

2. and is there any way to use a photoshop brush in illustrator? or at least convert it to a brush use in illustrator????

1. Pathfinder tool shoudl do the trick. Window >> Pathfinder

2. You could try using a pattern depending on what you wanted to achieve copy the brush into illustrator and do a live trace
