Hey there, brand new to iOS and iphone and I'm hoping for help on a few things:
  1. Is there a way to set the ringer to vibrate only without turning on silent mode? When putting my phone on silent mode, a number of my apps loose their audio.
  2. I've downloaded and bought a few alarm apps like Carrot. All of them seem to require that you run the app in the background or turn it on before bed. Is this the norm? The 1st party alarm seems to be the only app where I can set it and forget it.

Edit: Another question

  1. Is there an option that would allow me to not have input my touchID every time I download an app in succession?
Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the suggestion. Turning down the ringer all the way only seems turn down the ringer volume and does not go all the way down to vibrate. I know android has the option to turn on vibrate by using the volume buttons, so I was surprised using the volume button did not do the same thing in iphones

1. You can specify per contact a ringtone of silent and then a vibration pattern if you wish.

I know it's per contact, but there is no system wide way to do this unless you want to secify a silent ringtone as the default for everyone with vibration.

2. Yes. Apps have to run in the background or be opened. It's just the way it works as Apple does not allow apps to affect system functions. I do a combination of this though. My alarm is set with the system clock app while I use a bedside clock with no alarm.

I do that for two reasons. One, I love the clock app I have but hate it's alarm features and two, my device is jailbroken so if it resprings/restarts in the night my alarm will still go off.

Hope something there helps you.

The first issue with sound sounds (no pun intended) more like an app issue.

1. You can, sort of, as the above user stated. You can set specific contacts to specific ringtones or no tone at all. However, most apps will play sound with the mute switch on if you tap an icon specified to turn on audio for specific items in the app...or in some apps (snapchat being one of them), all you have to do to get audio in silent mode is to hit the volume buttons on the phone.

2. I have not heard of this issue, but I also only use the built in Clock app for alarms. It probably depends on how the app was coded as to how it works. Is there a specific feature these alarms offer that Apple's own does not?

3. Most of the time the app store will require either your password (always required after a reboot) or TouchID when purchasing an app you have never purchased before (re-install or re-download). I believe there is a setting where it won't ask for either within 15 minutes of a purchase, but ONLY if the purchases are free apps, not paid ones. Paid apps always require authentication of TouchID or your password.

1, settings > sounds change the ringtone to non and flick the vibrate on ring to off.

2, completely normal and just the nature of iOS's sandbox feature.

E1, again normal for anything that requires money.
