Hey folks, I've got 2 questions regarding iPhone 3GS and OS 3.1.2:

1- Since I installed a clean 3.1.2, my iPhone has been respringing itself after every few restarts. At first I thought it was SBSettings, but then discovered that it was the actual OS itself. Is anyone else having this issue?

2- What leads me to ask this question has to do with the above, partly. Once the iPhone is jailbroken, is there some code that's injected into the lowest form of the h/w architecture which has some impact on the phone even in the future, when it's not jailbroken? For instance, I feel that with the jailbreak, I get a bit less battery out of the device than when I first walked out of the store. I understand the battery is a subject to each person differently, but hopefully you get where I am going with this.

You know how after you jailbreak and you want to restore to a stock OS, the display flashes white for a second? Well, this happened to me even after a clean restore, but the phone has been previously jailbroken. So, I'm a bit confused about that.

Anyway, if you guys know something about this, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for looking.

Lots of different questions here, so I'll try to break it down.

I have a 3GS that's been both jailbroken and not jailbroken on every OS since the 3GS came out. Your issue is not normal. I would definitely try restoring it.

If you're having issues with battery life, it's most likely related to OS 3.1, not the jailbreak. Jailbreaking itself doesn't do anything that would cause your battery to die quicker. The apps/extensions you install very well could, though....that's no different than the Apps in the App Store, really.

As for the "does JB change anything at the lowest level"....in short, no. If you are freaked out about your JB, or need to get your phone fixed by Apple, do a DFU restore and your iPhone is no different than the instant you opened the box.

Hope that helps :)

Hey jayhawk11! Thanks for your response. This last time, I did do a DFU restore, and the same thing is happening. The battery is merely a reference, and is only to say that I feel like code is being injected into the underlying system. This is just bizarre, I agree. I haven't had this issue with any prior version of the OS, clean or jailbroken. A few people that I asked the same question to on Twitter gave me your response as well; they're not having this respringing issue. Thank you sir! I appreciate the time you took to write out your response.

No problem. Hopefully you can get it figured out. Maybe shoot an email to Geohot or iPhone Dev Team? Those guys are ridiculously smart on this stuff. :)
