Ok, is it possible to hook up 2 external monitors to an iMac?

As far as I know, you can only hook up 1 external monitor (either VGA or DVI using the appropriate mini-DVI to whatever convertor), and the internal monitor. Two in total, but only 1 external. Hope this helps.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

You can use a DVI splitter. But you'll only be able to mirror the view on each display, not use them independently of one another.
