I've played all but field runners, and tower defence is the best. The screenshot doesn't look appealing, very confusing but don't let that fool you. It's the best one. Unfortunately the playing field is a bit small, and there's no tower upgrading. But these obviously can come from updates. I rate mote-m (latest version, first sucked) second, and last idefend(lite, haven't bought full).

I just gave Towerdefence another go after almost immediately giving on it the first time and it hadn't grown on me any more since then. It just seems very clunky with it's user interface and to me the set courses make things less interesting, I much prefer Fieldrunners.

TowerDefend definitely looks best... unfortunately I don't have enough credit atm :( I've just been waiting for a scrollable map, the maps on the other TDs are too small.

Just curious why does TowerDefend look best? To me the screenshots look confusing and I can't work out what is going on, just looks way too busy to me.

FieldRunners has a scrollable map by the way and should hopefully have a variety of maps available soon.

The firewall game is pretty poor ... not even worth the 59p

Fieldrunners is superb and remains a great example of development

Agreed. It looks like something from the Atari days.

Fieldrunners will continue to be my only tower defense game.

Difference of preference, I guess. I don't mind, in fact I usually like a more complicated game/interface. Especially in this case, since with that comes a zoomable and scrollable map, and the vector style graphics that I love in a TD.

I wish Field Runners had more towers, more strategy and I could rush the next wave. But oh well.

More towers and enemies are coming soon plus sound along with a new map that the developer claims to have some twist, no idea what they mean by that.

Yup, it's pretty good.. addictive. I keep trying to beat it on hard with the last two maps... so close but no success yet! Can anyone else finish it?? I bought fieldrunners but it's not as fun as towerdefend..

Yup - I like TowerDefend too. OK, so graphically its not Field Runners and some of the bleep sounds got on my nerves but it works well on the whole.

Hi everyone. I'm Will Larson, with Monocle Studios LLC, and our new tower defense game for the iPhone & touch just hit the AppStore late last night. It's called touchDefense, and we'd love it if you checked it out. Hopefully you'll enjoy checking it out as well. :)

It's of the fixed path variety, although there are five different levels that can be unlocked (and we'll continue adding more--and larger--levels and towers over time), and four base towers with multiple upgrade paths.

There is a gameplay/user interface video on touchdefense.com (as well as screenshots). If you have any questions or comments, we'd love to hear from you at support@monoclestudios.com . We're a small shop with developers answering support emails, and we'll take care of you. (Also, devout promise that I typed this just for your reading pleasure, and am not pasting it across the internet with wanton abandon. ;)

TowerDefend looks a lot like Vector TD - search for it on google. If it's the same "game" then it's pretty damn awesome. I'm a bit skeptical though just because I don't want to pay for it and then the creator of Vector TD goes nuts on him.

(EDIT: I made a comment defending touchDefense, because I failed at reading and didn't realize you were talking about TowerDefend. Maybe the names are a bit too similar... I'll leave the chronicle of my failure for your amusement. -Will ;)

Doug,

Your money won't be spent in vain. :) The gameplay is no more similar than comparing any two fixed-path tower defenses picked at random out of a hat. Graphically the games are quite different as well, and not in the Vanilla Ice sense.

The towers are quite dissimilar, the user interface is distinct, and the overall feel of the graphics are quite different as well (Vector TD has a harsh almost menacing feel to it, whereas touchDefense is on the cutesy side of the spectrum). Looking at them now, I'd agree that there is some overlap in the appearance of some the creeps, but we both chose to use simple geometric shapes, and there will be similarities. (Fortunately there is no patent for 'Circles in tower defense games.", or most tower defense developers would be in a world of hurt. ;)

Please don't be discouraged, Luke and I spent the time to create an original product, and I think you'll enjoy it if you give it a chance.

Besiegement is one of my favorite TD games for the iPhone which also includes Fieldrunners.

Besiegement consists of a Story and Challenge Mode with the Story Mode being considerably long (I've had it for around a week and I'm still only 95% through it). In each mission you have certain requirements and if you survive the level and all of them are fulfilled then you earn a Gold Medal. The Maps are all different with a good mix of Fixed Paths and Maze Paths. There are 8 varieties of Towers available with all of them capable of being upgraded a total of 6 times.

The replay value and diversity is much better than Fieldrunners IMO, though with updates that should equal out a bit. The interface is nice and simple and you can Fast Forward and also slow down gameplay which is a godsend.

You should really check it out if you are a TD fan!
