2 phones, 1 phone number?

So I recently picked up an HTC one to replace my iPhone 5s. I love Apple products, but really need a bigger screen on my phone. I frequently need to read websites, PDF's and work related stuff on my phone, and the tiny screen just doesn't cut it.

So far I love the One, and it's big beautiful screen, but do miss the iMessage and Notes integration the most. I use text messages a lot to conduct business, and I miss getting those texts, and the ability to reply, on my iPad and Mac. I use the Notes a lot, and like being able to create/edit a note on my computer or iPad then have it updated on my phone.

I would love to have my iPhone and iMessage/Notes back, and am even considering adding a line to my account for personal use. I would use the new One for that, and keep the iPhone as my business phone. I currently use one phone number for both work and personal, which I really don't mind doing. Plus, probably 75% of the people I do business with have iPhones, so the iMessage thing is a big deal. But I'm just not sure I want the hassle of having two phones...

This is probably a dumb question, but is there any way to have 2 phones on one phone line?

I thought maybe I could forward the iPhone to the HTC one, but that doesn't forward text messages, does it? If it did, that would probably be the ticket I need to get my Apple fix...

Is there any way to get my Apple back, without having two separate lines? Will I hate the hassle of having 2 phones?

Am I just having buyers remorse?... Maybe. I do miss Apples integration across all my devices. I also seem to be more productive on the iPhone, but that may change as I get used to the HTC One.

Should I just stick it out until the iPhone 6 comes out with a bigger screen? I wish they would get off the pot and release the 6 today!

Ring your carrier - see if they can profer a solution.

Independently however I don't think you will solve this.

You could get a portable tablet to do all of that...

I use a nexus 7 to read our work stuff, PDFs, documents and browsing. The One has a 4.7 inch screen only so it would be even worse compared to my gs4 at 5 inches. I find extended browsng and PDFs to be quite annoying on that.

from your HTC One, you can forward text messages to any number you wish. is there a particular reason why you must use imessage? is regular sms/mms okay? try apps like mysms, airdroid on your phone. i think these two android apps will solve your problem.

also if you use your phone for work and other things, im sure you will love simple drag and drop file transfer, ability to attach any file with your email. i highly recommend those two apps. also try ES File explorer.

I already have a cellular iPad Air that rides with me in my truck. I use it for GPS to get from job to job, and to keep my notes/work orders in order (I use Evernote for that).

But when I'm away from the truck, I don't like to carry the big iPad around. If I'm on a job site, and need to pull up one of the many manuals I have stored in Evernote, its just a pain in the rear with the iPhone. I have a iPad mini too (which I stopped using after I got the Air), but even that is to big to have on me at all times.

There are so many times that I need a bigger phone for browsing the internet, but don't want to carry an iPad...say in a store where I want to compare prices on something I'm about to buy, or if I'm at lunch and just want to check out the forums I frequent, or when I'm on vacation and need to look up a motel or restaurant. The list could really go on and on if I really think about it.

I really need one phone that does it all...

You could just lug the nexus 7 with you. It is surprisingly small yet very good for reading manuals etc. I know how it feels to read a technical/work related manual on a small screen. I just find the 5 inch screen on my gs4 to be still quite inefficient for that. Of course YMMV.

Because I use text messaging so much for business, and most of the customers I deal with have iPhones, yes, iMessage is important to me.

I like being able to sit in front of my computer and slam out a long text without picking up my phone. I like being able to reply to a text in bed with my iPad. I like being able to update a Note on my computer, and have that info there for me on my phone when I need it.

I just talked to Verizon about adding another line to my account (I have 7 lines now, between my wife, kids, mother in law and iPads). It will cost me another $40 a month, which I'm not sure I'm willing to add to my already costly phone bill (I pay something like $350 a month now).

So I just tried AirDroid. Seems to work darn good. I can access it from my computer or my iPad and send texts, etc.

I'm one step closer to keeping this phone for good...

If you want to text and type notes from your computer use airdroid. It does everything you want and then some.

Have you looked at whether Google Voice would help you? I don't use it, so I don't know whether it has the feature set to accomplish what you want.

Do you need imessage, or do you need the ability to text from your PC/etc?

If you need texting from your PC, you can use Mighty text, airdroid, and a few other alternatives.

If you're willing to take the plunge and convert your number to google voice, you can text from PC, chrome, Mac, iPhone, iPad, whatever (all except for Windows phone). However, you won't be able to receive MMS anymore (unless you're on Sprint or T-mobile, and even then, it's not quite what you'd expect).

As for note synchronization, Google Keep or Evernote are probably good bets.
