I have 2 questions about the Mac Pro before I pull the trigger and order one. The first is about Win XP, Can you install it on a firewire drive that is bootable? Or does it have to be on an internal drive?

the second question is about older IDE drives of which I have a few. Is it possible to hook one of them up the the IDE 100 cable in the empty 2nd optical bay? This would save me a little money since I wouldn't have to buy a second SATA drive right away.

There are ways to hack the firewire drive but if you are not going to get into that then it has to be on an internal drive.

Please elaborate on "hacking the firewire drive".

The general consensus here is that it's possible for external USB2 drives but not for firewire drives. I'm interested in knowing how you do this.

From what I've heard around here, a regular IDE drive will work fine chained to the DVD drive.
