Hello,

1) Is the iCloud enabled desktop and documents folder an opt-in or mandatory feature?
2) Is there a way to permanently allow apps from any developper to launch without having to shift click every time?

Thanks!

1. you can turn it on or off in icloud system preferences (there are a number of options there).
2. once you allow an app install or open an app right-clicking, it opens thereafter (at least, in my experience).

if i'm wrong about any of this, i will eat my hat (spoiler alert: i don't have a hat)....

#1 is configurable, as Fisherking said.

For #2, if you want to allow a given app to run, allowing it once whitelists it from Gatekeeper. If you're asking if you can turn Gatekeeper off, so new apps from "any developer" can run without shift-click, that is not an option in Sierra without some terminal stuff. Only options in Sierra are: Mac App Store only - or Mac App Store plus identified developers.

Heh. Ok (on the salt) But I'm pretty sure if you don't do that with Sierra, you're always prompted for unsigned apps.

i have a couple of apps i had to control-click to open...but not since i first opened them.

if i'm still wrong about anything, lend me a hat. and i'll wear it...

Heh. Ok, damn you, you forced me to test it. :). (I just presumed everyone was getting worked up over it earlier, so it must need to be disabled).
You are entirely correct!! I really don't understand why everyone was getting so worked up about the gatekeeper change. I just grabbed Subler from Macupdate, did a right/control click to open and never got prompted again - and the status of spctl is enabled.
I'll find an appropriately goofy looking hat to wear today, as penance. :)

So, to the OP - it seems to be the same as it was in El Capitan (maybe Apple was thinking of making it more restrictive, then backed down?).

Hello all,

Thanks for the answers. Glad to see that Sierra will be the first OS since 10.8 that I will want to install (instead of being forced to for various reasons).
