I installed 2.0 on my unlocked/non-hacked iPhone and now I can't activate the phone. I keep getting the error message: "We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occurred (-9838)."

Hm. I've had no problems with this (I am using the pre-release 2.0 build)....

I really believe that this is an user issue, not Apple's issue.

Yea, it's a user issue. I didn't do a little tribal dance prior to installing 2.0.

I don't think it's a user issue. Like every update, you can't get everyone's installation to go smoothly. In the end though, it's a problem with the update process and not the user.

Ditto

Ditto - got the same problem. Updating with the "official release" build. Very clean iPhone - never did the jailbreak or unlock stuff. Halfway through the install, got the "could not complete your request" message. iPhone totally bricked. Very disappointed in Apple at this particular moment.

No, this is definitely an Apple issue!

Does anyone know of ANY trick to restore my phone back to 1.1.4? I can't wait all day to have my cell phone back. "iTune error" is not a solution.:p

Didn't expect to loose my phone over a software upgrade. I cannot be without a phone for the day. New activation is one thing. This is a whole different issue.

I paid my dues last year with a slow activation.

And you jumped to this conclusion how?

How is it the "user's" problem if Apple's servers are not responding?
"Accessing iTunes Store…"

[putting on flame suit]

So your are stating two different issues...

The first is the user, where (he/she) said it bricked their phone by using Apple's update. Did the user install 7.7, restart the computer (PC?), then installed the release that was posted on macrumors home page, or update via itunes?

The second issue you referring to is (I would suppose) an APPLE issue, but I had the same error come up and then when I click back onto the store, it loads.

Some people are having an actual issue. However, I would say that the vast majority of people in here complaining is because, like me, the update wiped the phone, loaded the new software and then got hung up because the iTunes Store is swamped.

There's no way any of us could have anticipated that the update would brick the iPhone because of activation. These are previously activated iPhones!

The iTunes Store issue is entirely Apple's fault, because they controlled the timing of the rollout of new software and new phones. We're working to their schedule, and they screwed the pooch.

And you will need that flame suit.
There are not two issues. Read what I write… sloooowly and perhaps you will understand better.

1. I update to iTunes 7.7 on my Mac…
2. I wait patiently until finally Apple makes 2.0 available via iTunes…
3. I connect and the software downloads… my iPhone gets backed-up etcetera.
4. Problems ensue when I (and most other people) have to wait more than 2 hours to get some kind of resolution…

So again, kind sir… tell me exactly how is it my fault and not Apple's fault?
:confused::confused:
You really are taking your role as Apple apologist to new levels…

If you read the first post it states:

"I love Apple, but come on. I download version 2.0 and you brick my perfectly fine phone.

WTF "

It says nothing about itunes; that comment about itunes was by another USER.

So let me restate my comment.

iTunes issues = APPLE
2.0 install issues = USER

I stand by my comment.

So let me restate. I downloaded the update from ITUNES, like a good little apple lemming.

I followed the steps and got hosed like everyone else.
