In my case, I just used SMS-verification-only for one of my accounts and both SMS and FindMyPhone verification on the other.

Not ideal, but it doesn't look like they'll let you have it both ways on multiple accounts.

Thanks. 2 questions.

1- can you use the same phone # for SMS on both accounts.
2- can you just set it(2-factor) up for the icloud one and not the itunes id?

Will be a mess if they allow combining of ids. Hopefully sometime soon but not hopeful.

1 - Yes, it's possible, because that's what how I set my accounts up.
2 - Yes, 2-factor is entirely optional, so you can set it up or not set it up on one or both accounts.

I've been skeptical on going 2-step. Here's my situation:

1. Separate IDs for me and wife
2. We have IP5s using our own IDs
3. She uses my iPad logged into iCloud and iTunes with her ID
4. Many of the downloaded apps on the iPad are under my ID

I understand how to do the 2-step process for each iPhone, but what about device verification for the iPad?

Use SMS and print off the recovery key.

My brother updated to iOS 9, then he started getting iCloud keychain verification messages from iMessage ("Your iCloud Keychain verification code is: xxxxxx"). He kept ignoring them till it was just frustrating. When he finally clicked on the link in one of the messages (it was a 6 digit link), it took him to a verification screen. Which seems pretty normal. But what wasn't normal is that my number is the one that was showing up on that verification screen. So when he enters the 6 digits, I get an iCloud keychain verification message with a 6 digit link. I don't click on any links from numbers or emails I don't know.

He ensures me that my phone isn't part of his "trusted device" list. So not sure how this mess started between our phones. I don't have the 2 step verification activated, and he says since he updated to iOS 9 he wasn't even aware of a 2 step verification process. So he hasn't set up his account as such either. Anyone else having this issue?
