Use external storage if you want two terabytes of storage. When do you think a new iPad Pro will have 2 TB of storage ? In 1 year , 2 years or later ?
Doesn't a 1TB iPad hit the $1500 marker last I checked? Who's going to pay the $$$$ to go to 2TB? I can't imagine from Apple's perspective that too many people would do that to make it a profitable venture for them.
I'm a storage hog (20TB file server) and honestly, even 1TB is pretty comfortable for me on the iPad. ~150-200GB covers what I consider essentials (app, iCloud Photo originals, favorite manga/comics) and the rest is just used for fat (more manga/comics from the to-be-read pile, movies, TV series, etc).
Even my laptops and desktops are fine with a 1TB main drive (OS, apps, scratch space, etc).
I am similar as you. My iPad is 512 GB and I use just 200 GB currently. I have 1.5 TB(two drives) on my laptop and I still have not used more than 500 GB. I would not advise less than 256 GB (even 512 GB) but 2 TB seems too much for me. At least based on my experience I would not use it fully and I would only end up paying a lot.
I know that video editing can take a lot of time but in this case I would advise backup on external SSD drives and not storing everything on the device.
Thanks everyone for the interesting discussions.
Yes I agree with most of you all no one really need a 2TB iPad. Though it is nice when you have no internet!
Same here. When I had my previous iPad I’d sometimes hit the 256gb limit because of all the content I’d download along with my entire music library. I’m pretty sure that won’t be a problem with the 1TB model I have now. No need to deal with carrying an external SSD and connecting it.Yeah. Pre-pandemic, I traveled a lot to places where there is poor or no Internet connectivity so I don't use cloud services. An SSD serves as good storage but I've always been one who prefers on-board storage.
There are two spaces on the current iPad motherboards for NAND chips, so assuming they stick with that it's going to be whenever Apple can source two NAND chips at a reasonable price that can deliver 2TB.
