I bought a refurbished iPhone 5 about 2 weeks ago and I've been really enjoying it. Until today, that is.

I bought the phone refurbished from T-Mobile expecting the phone not to have any sort of issues with it.

When I first bought the phone, the home button was not flush with the screen. When I rub my nail across the home button and the chassis, there's a small (not huge) "bump". My mom's iPhone 5, although much older, doesn't do this and is much more flush.

The square in the home button also looked a little crooked. Didn't complain though.

However, at work today, I noticed that if I look at my iPhone from an angle (from the side, not top to bottom) the phone has this weird white blob glare in the middle. My phone's background is pitch black, so it's really easy to see.

Also, when I open the phone screen (especially on full brightness) and swipe right to enter password, on the password prompt screen, I can still see the analog time "burned in" to the screen. If I open my phone, then close it, and re-open it, I can see the app icons "burned in" on the screen as well. This all happened suddenly.

I want to return my phone and just cough up the extra 100 dollars for a brand new iPhone 5.

But before I do, I just wanted to know if other people have experienced this problem in the past? Also, would I have to return the SIM card along with the phone? I am an existing TMobile customer.

Thanks.

You have been sent a phone that has had a third party display fitted to it.

Seriously?

Are they permitted to do that? I didn't pay the amount of money I did to have an annoying glare run on the screen 24/7. However, this just started today. I would have easily noticed it earlier because I'm very OCD when it comes to my iPhone.

It's 'referbished' they don't send them to Apple a 3rd party does the repair and that's generally with non oem parts to keep the cost down.

Hey man, given that you are experiencing not just one, but a few problems with your refurbished phone, I think it'll be a good idea to head back to the T-mobile store and exchange the refurbished model if still possible.

Anyone reason you didn't opt for a 5S instead? Costs?

Mainly costs. I wanted a fresh new phone for a year to help me "float by" until the iPhone 7 comes out. If I like the design of the iPhone 7, I'll definitely be upgrading next year.

I ended up returning the refurb, though. Ended up buying a brand new one on Amazon for not much more than the refurb.
