I start school on January 8th and I'm going to be ordering the 15" MBP. Is now the right time to be buying this? I want to be certain that I will be able to run Leopard with no problems when it comes out. Another concern of mine is Vista compatibility. Thanks!

why Wouldn't Leopard run?! it'll run without problems on 5 year old G4s, why wouldn't it on the latest and greatest? :)

It'll run better than almost anything but the mac pro
only reason you might wait a few more weeks is to not have to pay extra for leopard.

Hmm, Apple usually releases new iLife version in Macworld conference (That's the 1st week of January).. So if you buy it now, you'll need to buy a new license for iLife '07....

With current MBP spec, you will not have any problem running Leopard... In fact, I think Leopard runs just fine under G4 though... Although it has not been officially supported by Boot Camp, there are users who have reported that they can install and run Vista in their mac.. So I think you'll also be fine with this one too...

A lot of people seem confused about the system requirements for leopard. I'm not sure why this preconceived notion that a new computer is going to be obsolete in 6 months comes from. But it seems to be a common question on these boards.

It should be alright :)

64 bits. You can't lose with that. Leopard is going to be compatible with even the ancient G4 macs so you are just fretting too much :D

Is the Core2Duo a true 64 bit processor?

It's probably because of the seemingly steep hardware requirements going from Windows XP -> Vista on that side of the fence.

Exactly where most of these concerns are coming from. The fact that consumers need a sticker on their new computer to know whether or not it will run the next release of their OS is a bit ridiculous to me. Fault the OS, which won't run on half the machines out there now (if it runs at all).

But, I'm sure I don't need to tell you all that. ;)

it'll run leopard fine, that's why it has a 64 bit processor. I just received mine and i'm charging it, no real problems as of now unless you wanna call the 2mm gap when its closed a problem. I hope i just don't have a defective display with dead pixels and uneven backlighting. I think every one of them has the little gap, mines not a big deal. It can be easily fixed with this cool product made for the macbook pro.

I'm running Vista under Parallels now, using a C2D MBP; it runs just as well as XP.
