Hey guys,

I had a quick question regarding using a 20" imac Core 2 Duo with an external monitor. I know it is possible to do ( I currently am running it with a second display) but what I want to do is a monitor out. Meaning I basically want to do monitor out to a 27" (1920 x 1200) screen and only use that screen. I want the imac to be blank/off and Ill just store it in the cabinet. Is this possible to do?

Thanks in advance!

No. At least, not without some hacking, and even then you wouldn't want to put an iMac in a closed up cabinet with no where for the heat to go.

I actually already have the over heating issue taken care of. I also have no problem opening the mac as Ive already replaced the hard drive. Would it work if I disconnected the display panel? As in would that lead to any problems?

Yeah unfortunately Im not a huge fan of windows. And I really dont want both running at the same time. If I did extend my monitor as where both were on would it affect performance? I really wanna switch to a 27" monitor but Im completely satisfied with the performance of my imac. No need to upgrade, but also dont want the main monitor running all the time. What to do?
