So i installed iOS 12 GM on my iPhone 7 Plus just fine (been using it on my old iPHone 6 for months) and suddenly i get a message that i have run out of space. cannot even open apps like whatsapp anymore and system shows 20 GB.

When i connect the phone to the macbook it says "update available. please close itunes and then it says "1 Object installing" but doesnt move (strange behaviour anyway).

Resetting to iOS 11 now ...

When I updated from the last beta to GM I went with OTA, and the same thing with system size growing up to 20 gigs happened. I then downloaded the file, and option+updated the phone via iTunes, and now the system is keeping the size at around 10 gigs, which I think is much closer to normal.

That "update available" also happened with me, but the update went through without any hiccups.

Just tried your way and what the hell. It is happening again! 2 GB remaining and dropping. I think it is related to the iCloud Photo Library somehow. It seems to try to pull every photo to check if it is already in the cloud

You would know if it's related to iCloud Photo Library. Unless you have very few images up there you would be getting messages about how it can't download the file. That "feature" should be called iCloud Photo Trash.

omg tried it a 3rd time and again it is filling up my phone. I deactivated iCloud Photos on the phone and it claims i have 90 GB of photos on my phone.

I have a 32 GB iPhone ...

The OS needs to index. After the upgrade. Give it more time to stabilize and an extra reboot. If you have iCloud Photos on you may have 90gb in the cloud.

iPhone X iOS 12.0 beta show System as 10.21GB

iTunes erase and install? Seems like a corrupt file system/ data.

During install 12 is 1.5GB and probably needs 4GB FREE. I like to have 1/3 storage not used. There is ~10GB used my apps, media, data and “other” which I assume includes cache used my apps and system.

Do full factory erase.

I’m having a similar issue where storage is disappearing to System. Normally my free space would be around 28.1GB but it’s commonly fluctuating with dipping below the 28GB mark. Just recently seen I only had 20GB free space left with System taking an extra 8GB - Got it back after a few secs of going off the storage page and going back into it. Pretty serious bug.

Edit: I don’t have iCloud Photo Storage turned on.
