20" iMac owners- How bad is bad? (TN panel)

Wondering if I can, in all honesty recommend an iMac to family and friends anymore. I know the TN panels are bad- but how bad are they really on the iMac? Are they as horrible as the macbook, or is it far less noticeable on the desktop?

Depends who your family and friends are. If they are professionals who have a high standard, then no. Don't recomend it. But if they are the average user, then go for it. I personally find no problem with monitor. It doesn't bother me one bit. I do video, graphic design, motion grapics etc on it. Doesn't effect my work at all. But to each their own. The sum of it all: it's not bad at all.

Thanks- this is the kind of feedback I'm looking for. They aren't professionals, but I am... and even if I wasn't, I think I would still say the Macbook screens are unacceptable.

Yeah the macbook screens are nasty. But to keep costs down, Apple has to cut something.

Unless you have a defective iMac they are fine. I would be more worried about dead pixels. Tn panels are Tn panels but i have had several with no dead pixels no issues other then normal tn traits. Unless your a professional photographer & graphics artist...... Just go look at a few. I love my 2.4 20" .

It looks great as long as you're looking pretty straight on. I don't notice any color shift while sitting in front of it or watching TV on it from four or five feet away or so. The only time I notice anything is when I'm walking around the room watching TV on it but it doesn't bother me.

Am I that old school? I was taught never to trust any display for accurate color, much less lcds. This was pretty much beaten into me by more than one design prof.
