20 inch IMAC vs 24 inch IMAC ????

I am a photographer, and I will be using the IMAC mostly for editing photo's... etc and doing some amateur/professional videography. I was wondering if there is any photographers out there who could help me in deciding which IMAC to get the 20 inch or the 24 inch. I MAY (not sure yet) offer slideshow presentations of wedding receptions and be using the IMAC.... Maybe? Can anyone help me out here as to which one to get?

The 24-incher uses the same type of display as the $900 23" Apple Cinema Display. The 20-incher uses a cheaper type of display, with a smaller viewing angle and less accurate colors.
 
the 20" is very good and should suit your needs fine. the viewing angles is a downside tho. the 24" is high def resolution and is 4 inches bigger which will help with the slide shows. it also has more colours aswell which will help with photo editing. 24" is faster and will be a lot better with photoshop. both are very good. but do you want a holden commodore or a holden caprice? if you dont know what that means look it up.
 
size alone should make the decision easy. the 4 inch difference is just like the difference between a macbook and a 17 macbook pro.

also, look at the resolution.

the 20" is 1680x1080
the 24" is 1920x1280

2.457 million - 1.8 million pixels = 600,000 pixel difference or 30% more with the 24" imac

especially with comparing 2 pictures side by side (with the large megapixel cameras), the more screen real estate, the better.

i would actually rather go for an older 24" than a newer 20" solely based on the extra viewable area on the screen
 
I'm a photographer and ended up going with the 24". It's the only way to go in terms of the iMacs in my opinion.

Presentation-wise the 24-inch has the proportions right. It has the 'golden ratio' so to speak; with the border along the bottom appearing much less intrusive into screen real estate. I have a 20-inch at the office and it just doesn't cut it for me but the secretary that uses it loves it!
 
I think that the 24 inch would be better for presentations, and you have more screen real estate to do your photo work.

However, if using for presentations involves moving your iMac to location, then I would go with the 20 inch. There is a big difference when it comes to transporting them.
 
I went with the 24" based solely on screen quality. IMO there is a HUGE difference between the 24" and 20" screens. For $300 I thought it was a no brainer considering the overall investment.

Agree that the 24 inch screen looks better. You can easily see the difference in the store when they are side by side.
 
Photographers and photo-editors should definitely get the 24" screen IMO.

Also, why don't you just call it an iMac? The product name isn't "IMAC".
 
I recently bought an iMac and debated between the 20" and 24" screen sizes. I'd read a lot of comments regarding the screens, screen issues, screen quality, etc. Probably read too much and over analyzed. IMO, both screens look pretty darn good if you're sitting in front of them. Yes, the 20" screen doesn't offer the same technology, but it still looks good in everyday use. If you look at the screens from wider viewing angles you begin to notice bigger differences in quality. The 20" begins to look yellowish at wider viewing angles. I ended up with the 24" and am very happy with it. I think for any critical color work or presentations the 24" is the better choice. But for most daily computer usage the 20" would satisfy most users.
 
I have the 20", which is great, but I can see that a 24" for your type of work could well be beneficial.
 
24" Display

If you don't get the larger display, you will be regretting that decision as long as you have the machine. Go for the largest display (24") you can get.

OK OK OK .... THANK YOU ALL SOOOOO VERY MUCH for your help... I am as much as I hate to admit it... am leaning as of today (with your help ofcourse) into buying the 24 in IMAC. My only concern is that I may have to work a week longer to have the extra cash for the 24 inch! And still get the service contract. Would you all recommend getting APERTURE 2???? Thanks so much for your input. I did go to the store and seen the difference in the 24 in vs 20 in with regards to the color sat. And yellowing of the screen. I did notcie ALOT the more vibrant colors on the 24 inch. I'm sure a 20 in would do me well... BUT heck if I'm gonna pay only 300.OO more for a 24 in I may as well get the big bad 24 inch IMAC! LOL

Wait 350 days to buy AppleCare and then purchase on eBay for 60% less money.

Get Aperture 2, you won't regret it.

and it's iMac, not IMAC
