Hi Guys,

I use a lot of final cut pro 5 for work, i'm thinking of getting Dual 2.0Ghz PowerMac, but i also looking at iMac 20" with Intel core duo 2.0Ghz

My questions is which one is better to run Final Cut? i dont upgrade software a lot, probably sticking with Final Cut pro 5 for a while (at least a year or two)

let me know guys

Well..

Well a lot rides on which version of Final Cut you have. If you don't have the Universal edition of Final Cut Pro, you would probably want to get a PowerMac while they still have PowerPC. If you got the intel iMac you would either have to pay $1299 to get the universal edition or suffer from dramatically low speeds of the program.

EDIT: I looked on Apple's site, you can get a Universal Final Cut Pro 5 for just $99 because you already have it. They wont ship until March, but that only 3 days away!

you can see what i just said on this page http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/

I personally have an iMac and love it, I think Final Cut Pro will work rather nicely on it. Or you could wait for the mysterious Feb 28 to see what Apple is releasing. They could release an intel PowerMac! I believe that the iMac would be a tad faster, not 100% sure though!

Pm G5

If you already have the software and need to use a system now then get the PM G5. FCP will be UB at the end of March, but a PM G5 is an ideal system for video editing. An Intel iMac is more limited when it comes to that.

thanks guys, the 99 upgrade to unibin sounds nice, but i think i will just get g5 for now sinc ei got to go back to work asap

I highly doubt you will regret it.

If I understand, FCP Studio won't even work on the new Intel iMacs. It must be a G5 processor (unless FCP is UB)
