20" intel iMac - Do I have the right RAM installed?

This sounds like a strange question. I got the computer in a trade with someone else. Crucial's program says I can use 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400


When I go into system profiler it says I have this
Size: 1 GB
Type: DDR2 SDRAM
Speed: 800 MHz

Why is it showing 800mhz only? Is that even possible?

My second question is this. I have 2 sticks of RAM from my old macbook that are 512MB each that are PC2 5300. Would it be faster if I put 1 or both of those in instead of the DDR2 800mhz RAM?

That's the speed of the RAM, not the CPU - and it sounds right. Putting in those 2 512 MB sticks would not be any faster - it might be slower, as the older RAM may have a slower speed, if it is even compatible with your iMac.

If you really want a speed / performance boost, go to OWC or Crucial or Ramjet and grab a 4 GB set of RAM (it's really cheap right now), and max that baby out!

What model of iMac is it? That's really rather important in determining what RAM you need.

20" core 2 duo imac. i have a 128mb 2400XT video card.
