A 20" LED LCD display is not going to happen. The price would be right if Apple wanted to put it out, but as we've seen with the iMacs, 24" is the minimum size for any Apple screen from now on (other than the "low-end" 20" iMac.)
The 30" won't be updated for a while, as the cost is still prohibitive. Two or three other companies offer 30" LED displays, and the cost is over $2800. I can see a $2499 Apple 30" LED display, but component prices still need at least another 6 months to drop.
Interesting news about the 30" ACD with LED. I had no clue the LED was so expensive. I have thought various different things since Apple axed the 23" ACD. I figured we would definitely see a matte replacement just like the 24" LED for the Mac notebooks.
Now, the new 24" LED ACD is truly made for the Mac notebooks. Apple has told us that, and it seems rather obvious as it is like a docking station for Mac notebooks while power cable doesn't make any sense for Mac desktops.
I think Apple is waiting on something or just sold more of the 23" before could have the new ones ready. Maybe projections were off. The whole thing of buying a new MAC PRO, is the limitation of only ONE 24" ACD with a Mini Display Port. They don't even have the 23" with DVI to run as a second display. The new Mac Pro has one DVI and one Mini Display Port standard with ONE video card.
It seems odd to me that those buying a brand new Mac Pro, cannot buy a 24" matte ACD or even two or four 24" ACDs (not even current LED) without two or more graphics cards. In fact, if someone wants a Mac Pro with FOUR 24" ACDs, they have to buy FOUR Nvidia graphics cards (could support EIGHT displays but only four using mini Display Port). As the cards support one mini display port and one DVI. That seems like a common want for a Mac Pro buyer.
I know the 30" ACD is available to Mac Pro buyers, but it seems ready for an update too. Even if it costs more money, I think Apple could make more money with NEW Apple Cinema Displays. I had read some well, RUMORS, that Apple was buying up 22" and 28" displays for something. Maybe was not a fact. I had figured we would see some off sized iMacs. Maybe we will see some different sized ACDs.
Was odd to me that the new iMacs didn't have LED displays, but again your pricing information could explain that.
To me, it seems like matte NEW LED ACDs are coming sooner rather than later. Even if the price is steep, I can imagine a lot of people buying BIGGER ACDs. Yet again pointing at the end of the 20" ACD. Maybe it will be six months or longer as you stated???
What about all of the older Mac owners who want anything other than a 30" ACD, NOT AVAILABLE! It seems that Apple is writing off a lot of business without introducing a DVI cable that allows older Mac users to run a new 24" ACD with mini display port... It also is writing off a lot of business to people who want a matte external display even if they do own a new Mac capable of running the mini Display Port displays.
Come on Apple, how about some new Apple Cinema Displays!
