20" or 23" Display

Alright..loving this MPB. The size is PERFECT....WAY bigger than you would think and screen is flawless.
NOW the questions is do I get a 20" or 23" display. I am a photographer and wonder is the 23" is worth the cost diff. I am sure this has been covered before but I would love some feedback and advice. You haven't steered me wrong yet! Thanks
 
The 23 incher is Hi-Def, whereas the 20 is not. Those 3" feel more like 10" but that's just my opinion. All Apple displays are good, but if you're not going for HD, you might as well just get a Dell or other generic display unless you're like me and want to have all Apple stuff.

Once you get whatever you do, tell us all about it. I am also curetnly getting the 23 inch display for my Mac Mini.
 
I bought the 23" display because when you really look at the two side-by-side it is really worth the extra money for the 23" but now that the Dell display came out; I would just go and buy that. I know yesterday it was on sale for like $700 shipped which is a really good deal for a 24" lcd.
 
Ok, I am a photographer too and this is what I think. You got the MBP for the screen for tools ect....

Unless you want you room to look like a magazine and the only thin u have on ur desk is a mac mini, wireless mac keyboard and mouse and a cinema, get the apple screen, otherwise, for $333 you can get a DELL SHIPPED 20" 2005fpw, look up coupon codes and get a 25% off coupon off ebay, today is the last day.

so $333 vs. $800 for dell 24, or $1300 for apple.

plus dell has apple, you know, most everyone has/likes their dell for a reason, and they got imputs. get teh $333 dell and buy another lens for your camera
 
I know you're asking about the 20" and 23" but I say save up and go for the 30". You can add a keyboard and mouse and run it with the lid closed. I used to have a 23" and now have a 30" myself and the difference is incredible! Of course, like stated already, you would probably have to save a little but IMO, it's well worth it. I use mine for Video/Audio/Photography.
 
If you have the money, go 23". I've used both at the Apple store for comparison and as said, the 3" seems like MUCH more than 3". :)
 
i was in the same situation a month or so ago. just setup a new system. i was giong to go for a 20" ACD, but of course in the store i kept gravitating towards the 23". :p

but then i saw that awesome deal that Dell had on the 24" WideScreen LCD. couldn't pass that up. this screen is awesome! :D
 
That 23" just seems miles bigger than the 20". What with the abiliy to play 1080p HD as well it's definitely the one to go for - I absolutely love mine.

Either way of course, the ACD's are just stunning. I'm so glad I paid the premium for something this beautiful.

I have a 20 ACD. Gaming is good but not excellent. I play like AOEIII, HF2, CS, CD2 etc and it runs fine.

The reason why I bought the 20 over the 23 was because of the supported resolutions.

REMEMBER that even if you have a huge display, the games may not support it and youll need a pretty hefty graphics card to run games aat really high resolutions!

Hmm, So when a game doesnt support the max resolution of the 23" CD u get bacl bars on the left and right of your game? or u see ur desktop?
 
Youll see either black bars, or the game will be stretched and there will be tears on the graphic. It is never good to try and run your games in a resolution other than the monitor itselfs resolution if you know what i mean. It is best for the monitor to run at optimal resolutions.

However gaming isnt really the strength on the Apple displays due to the slower response time, though this is made up somewhat by the panel Apple uses which I believe is an IPS LG panel.

However i realized you mentioned OCCASIONAL gaming so the Apple display will be fine I think. If gaming is not so much of a priority, I would get the 23".

Gaming is quite important lol for me so chose 20" since the games I play support this resolution.

Hmmm, I still play Worms 2 and am planning to buy a 23" ACD...:D Also I game quite a lot, also a couple of older games that don't have a high resolution (for example Diablo II, COD, MOHAA). I now have the 9600 that came with my G5. I'm thinking of getting a dual core Intel PowerMac when they come out, so I can play more games under XP with a dual boot or a VPC. I wonder how the 23" will be?
 
Well, I now have 2 screens, a 20" and a 17" CRT, both from Apple. I need the desktopspace for building websites and offcouse the coolfactor, because my G5 sits in my livingroom (I have one long table (3 meters) that serves for a desk and eating table)! Another reason is that both CRT's are consuming a lot of power, a 23" ACD only consumes 1/4 of that.
 
99% of games support 1600x1200 at least and some do 1920x1200 so both of which the screen can do native pixel for pixel (with black bars.
