I guess this is a no-brainer but does can anyone out weigh the pro/cons of having a 20' vs 24' iMac? We're talking base config here.

I mean the 24' only has a huger screen & a slightly better graphics card... But is the proce diff really worth it?

Also: does the 24' screen sometimes maybe feel tooo BIIIGGG?

Did you make a deal with this guy?:p

Well, the 24" has 24 W amplified speakers, while as the 20" had 12 W.
The 20" has 2xFW400 while as the 24" has FW800+FW400 (one of each)...

The X1600 is better than the 7300GT, but slower than the 7600GT, so if you upgrade, the 24" is gonna have way better GPU. Besides the screen being bigger, it also supports 1080i HD, since the screen is 1920x1200.

Plus, the 24" can be wall mounted with a VESA mount.;)

I don't understand why he should wait for rev. B. There really are no issued with the new iMacs, they are rev. B. There's been some talk about the brightness, but yadda yadda yadda.

Only thing I'd wait for is Leopard/iLife '07.

Agreed. There is no need to wait for a "rev B". It works just fine.

And yes, this topic has been brought up before.

:( Nope, no deal with "that guy"...

I wish I could afford a 24" but I can hardly get a 20". My stepdad lets me use his 20" G5 iMac but the comp i'll get now is goanna be my own and I don't want sub-standard tech. SO I'm weighing If I'll really use all th extra features of the 24'. In my country (South Africa) we can't configure our orders. we're stuck with over-priced base models check here Just for the record $1 is about R7 (rand).

I also need to convince my mom to get me the 24 instead of the 20 :(

I can voutch for Jasonbot, our models are over priced and configuration options are not a option.

I asume your stepdad uses macs a lot so you wont have to convince him on the mac, so Parental units tend to either think of usefullness, and future value. A friend of mine got a 24" imac, he was primarily swayed by the screen, but you have to remember that the 24" model is also a bit more upgradable, their graphics cards might be upgradable, and as mentioned, the screen has a HD resolution, so with a addin your parents can also use the imac as a HD tv when the world cup (maybe) comes to us. If you want you can try and push the FW800 port as a reason why the machine will be more future usefull, but he might see through that one.

Mind if i ask where you are based?

Kk, Firsly I'm "stationed" in Pretoria, the best city in South Africa.

My stepdad's not a mac person but he kinda got a mac as a computer for his digital photos, I'm the only one ever using it but it's not mine... Strange world?

I'm definately getting a mac but which one is the question, and when. I wanted to wait for new macbooks but it'll be cheaper to get the iMac as it's a desktop machine.

My parents wont care about HDTV or what what, they'll laugh! And when they saw the price it was like this ""... I know it's an expensive investment. maybe i'll use the investement arguement? And of course there's also the $money$ issue:(
