2006 MacMini CPU replacement

Hi there,

After 4.5 my MacMini literally bit the dust after being crash-happy for a week or so.

On opening it I found that the cooler was covered in a thick layer of dust (not really a suprise) so I do have the hope that I only fried the CPU

Orginally it was a 1.86 CoreDuo but if does still work why not go to something more beefy. AFAIK I could use an Core2Duo up to 2GHz but Intel's naming/typing convention is more than confusing (to say the least).

Time to get the point :

For what numbers/names should I search in eBay ?
Best option would:
- buy low end CoreDuo or CoreSolo for an Euro or 2.
- test wether it works
- pay more for the best CPU that can be bought at a reasonable price.

ive read that people upgraded their core duo minis with the T7200 (2GHz) roughly $50, the T7400 (2.16GHz) and the T7600 (2.33GHz) roughly $150

That was the link (1st) i was looking at aswell the 7600 should work according the the link i posted. check there though

the second link im not sure about. dunno why it shouldnt though. You know i can probs get the CPU for like 10 euros, so go for it id say
