I have a 2006 CD Mini, 1.83GHz, with a dead drive. I plan to use it some more, as a homework/surfing/email machine for the kids, probably internet games, too. Should I just throw in a cheap HDD or go with an SSD? OWC has a 100GB HDD for under $40, that's almost scandalous. Even a 30GB SSD is nearly twice that.

My media is all served from another computer, so I'd put basically nothing but apps on here. It would be wired Gb ethernet. Maybe 30GB is enough and the speed would be more useful day to day?

Looking for opinions.

I think 100gb for 40$ is pretty steep, at least according to pre flood prices. But times have changed.
I would go for the ssd. Look for deals, you can find 60GB ssd for 60$.

I think 30 GB is just too little, almost no space left after os.

I would go with an SSD without question for your mini. I did it for my 2011 Mini and noticed a huge improvement. I put in a Samsung 470.

Can you post a link to the SSD you found?
I see 30GB for $60 everywhere.

Considering I don't need 500GB or TBs for this install, price per GB isn't so much the concern, just straight price. But yeah, 30 looks way too small. My other Mini of that age is using nearly 70. Trying to figure out what is in there, it could probably be a lot more lean.
