Hi,
I have the chance to get 2 4gb dimms for my 1,1 MP for next to nothing, however dthey are the ones without the heatsinks just the metal casing, I've heard this is ok with he 2gb ones but the 4gb run hotter so having the heatsink is recommended? Do you reckon they will be ok?

No problem i just observe an increase of the fan from 600 rpm to 900 due the increased temperatures

With reference to 2gb sticks, I see a four degree difference between 'heatsinked' and 'plated' ram in my 1,1 -> 2,1.

Download/read the manual on how to populate the ram risers, and see if you can work out the coolest way to populate the risers. I'm using Marcel Bresink's 'Temperature Monitor Lite' as a reference.

There are appear to be some creative pricing strategies in evidence on ebay uk as far as memory for MP 1,1 or 2,1s - that said there are some good deals to be had - it's best to search for the ram spec (PC 5300 667mhz FB DIMM 240 pin) rather than 'Mac Pro RAM'

My sticks run from 72 - 79 degrees with riser B running about 3 or 4 degrees warmer than A.
