When i switch off my 2007 MM (2.0GHz, 2GB RAM) through  -> Shut Down , it sometimes doesn't completely powers down: the light goes off, there's no more signal on the monitor, there's no more reaction to any keystroke, BUT it's still 'on', i.e. you feel heat from the vents at the back and you can't switch on the machine by just pushing the On button at the back; in fact i have to switch it off completely first by holding that Power button for 5 seconds, before I can switch it on again.

Anyone knows what going on and what to do about it?

Thanks a lot in advance for any suggestions!

I've had this experience in the past and it can be very hard to trouble-shoot because at that point the system is non-responsive.
Maybe check your system logs after restarting to see if there is any sign of a hung application or whatever.

Thanks for your suggestion.
Will give it a try next time it happens (which is not always when I switch it off...) - any suggestions what to look for?
