I am looking at maybe buying a used 2008 or 2009 model Mac Pro to pimp out. A few quick questions if anyone can give insight. Will either of these models support the 7950 GPU? I looked up geekbench scores and they are still relevant enough benchmark wise for my needs but are there any big concerns I should have about them? If I were to get one I would want to throw a 7950 into it and multiple SSDs, so if there is a obvious problem with this I'd appreciate any insight.

get a 2009 (4,1)
ram is cheaper, technology is newer, CPU upgrades are a breeze (if single CPU)

both will work with a 7950

Thanks for the info, I ended up just specing out a high end 27in iMac and not worrying about it, but I have some friends who will be happy to hear the 4,1 or higher.

Get the 4,1 and when you are ready to make the 6-core jump, just flash the 4,1 to 5,1 firmware and get the w3680 or w3690 and you will have 6-core capability. Also, at the point get 1333 MHZ memory.
