Sorry to do this but i have been researching it and i can not find a definitive answer from a modern forum.

I am trying to find out if i get a 5870 from newegg with MDP out will it work properly on my mac pro and run a 27' Cinema Display.

Thanks

The only 5870 that will 'just work' with your Mac Pro is the one sold by Apple.
It's the only one that comes with EFI firmware.

You can buy a 5870 form new egg, but you will have to flash it to make it work. You can find lots of details about that here and even more at netkas.org.

Good Luck!!!

Is flashing hard to do or relatively painless?

I could get the ones from apple but they are so much more expensive. But if that is the best option.

Is flashing safe? What happens if you do something wrong?

Is there a big difference in performance between the 5770 and 5870?
