2008 mac pro 6G or 3G SSD?

Based on an earlier post about whether to buy new or upgrade my 2008, I'm going to do the latter. I think the first thing I'm going to do is upgrade the boot drive to an internal SSD. I'm going to go for the 240GB OWC SSD. The question is should I get the 3G or the 6G? I realize I will only be able to utilize it as 3G with this mac. Getting the 6G might future proof it a tiny bit. I doubt it though. In three years the 240GB might be considered a tiny drive in terms of SSD. The cost difference it $120.

Anyway, thoughts on this? Is there any other reasons I don't know about one way or the other?

I would stick with the 3G because as you said the 6G will not utilize the full speed.

Unless you plan on purchasing another machine in the future with 6G, and then transferring it to that machine, your not really future proofing anything.

Also, as you said, by the time you decide to pick up another machine, the prices on SSD's will (hopefully) be dramatically lower.

As stated above. When are you getting a new Mac? If not for 2 or more years, stay with the 3G SATAll version. Especially if you are planning on using an HDD for home directory. You are always slowed down by your HDD interaction.

If I upgrade my 2008, then I won't be planning on getting another for 3-4 years. And, yes I had planned on using a second HDD as my documents directory. Only planned on using the SSD for apps and os.
