Hi! My early 2008 Mac Pro won't wake up from sleep mode now that it has Mountain Lion. I have found it asleep a few times now, and pressing the power button doesn't wake it up. When I manually put it into sleep mode, it has the same problem most of the time.
I have a ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB, and silicon image SATA card otherwise it pretty much a stock machine.

Any ideas?

Dimme - any luck

I am having the same issue and cannot find much about it. I have reset PRAM & SMC multiple times. Simple sleep does not appear to be an issue, but after exteneded period of time (hibernation mode?) the system will ask for password - after i enter it just sits...

Mixed results here, short peirods of sleep are OK. But If I load up my scanner and let it scan for about 30 minutes and then it goes to sleep When I come back most of the time I have to hit the power button to reboot.

Do you have the original Radeon 2600XT installed in your 08?
This card used to cause some sleeping issues with OS X Leopard on my machine, maybe this problem returned with ML...
But it's just a wild a guess.

I too have this cannot wake from sleep issue. Even though the power button's led light is doing the slow pulsating sleep thing, the fans in the grill are clearly still running. Though nothing can get it to wake.

I've never had this problem in Snow Leopard. I did a fresh install of ML, installed all apps again. So I am not sure what it may be...

Also, at certain times after it boots, I am able to move the mouse cursor, but I cannot click anytime... and the keyboard doesn't work, so I have to resort to pushing in the power button to restart...

I've reset SMC and PRAM more than I can count within the last couple of days...

This is quite frustrating.

Have the same issues. No PRAM or SMC Reset helps. I suspect it has to do with the AMD 5770 I have installed in my Mac Pro 2008 but I am not absolutely sure yet.

Yea same problem here too on my MP 2008 with 5770. Happened this morning actually and had to hard restart.

A fix for me

I've had my Mac Pro Early 2008 since Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion. No trouble until updating to 10.8.1 then similar issues to this forum but trying to wake up from sleep caused multiple restarts and real slow downs. I read a few forums and looked in my ~/Libray/Preferences folder for com.apple.systemuiserver.plist. I found it together with 96 other files with the same name but with .sixcharacter prefixes after the plist. I dragged them all to the desktop and restarted and immidiately the computer sped up mightily and this seems to have cured the problem. Hope this helps.

The most recent update seems to have fixed the issue. Not a single problem since I updated.

Which update are you referring to? The .1 update? I just updated to ML and I haven't had a problem waking up, however my fans kick up and get really loud. But the machine does wake up.

Mac Pro 2.8
8 Gig Ram
10.8.1
GeForce 8800 GT 512

To revisit my August 30 entry

After four months of being free from this symptom, it suddenly occurred again, two days running, so I simply trashed ~/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist and restarted. Mac Pro Early 2008 is now back up to speed and not doing a rip van winkle.:D

My wife & I each have a Mac Pro 3,1 which were upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 at the same time as I installed GTX570 graphics cards. Mine sleeps & wakes beautifully while hers will not wake from sleep. Mine was a clean ML install while hers was an upgrade from Snow Leopard.

I have the same problem with both my late 2011 Macbook Air and my Mid 2011 Macbook Pro. I've discovered they aren't really FAILING to wake as I originally thought, they just take a LONG time. Like sometimes upwards of ten minutes. I would appreciate any information on how to solve this as well.
