I currently have a MP with the 24" LED and in a few weeks I will be done with most of the video work I originally needed it for. It has the 2.66 Quad and while I love the machine, I could easily get by with an iMac once I am done.

That being said, I would like an iMac quad core eventually. With the upcoming core i7,5, & 3's.... is there a mobile quad chip in there? If there is a mobile quad also clocked at 2.66 GHz, would I have similar encode times as I would on my MP with the same clock speed, just a Xeon class processor? I dont really want to get rid of the MP and LED, but financially it would be the right choice based on my needs. I just do not want to get a 24" laptop to replace it, I will still need the performance just significantly less than I do now.

No quad-core iMac before late 2010. Next step will be Arrandale which is dual core but four threaded (4 virtual cores).

Keep your current. You would only lose money if you change it to iMac.
