I found a guy on my local Craigslist selling a top end early 2009 24" iMac. The guy claims bad HDD, which is a simple repair. What you think? Should I pick this up. I would use it either as a light use computer for myself, (I have always wanted an iMac, but never really had the need) or I think with a fixed hdd and all the keyboard and mouse accessories I should be able to get at least $300 for it if I sell it working.

What you guys think?

I put a SSD in a 2008 21 inch for my parents and it's like brand new. I think those 24" go for about $500 or more on re-sale sites, I'd get it.

@fenderbass146 The 24" iMacs are still nice Macs, especially a later one like that. If you want it and you're willing to replace the hard drive, go for it. I recommend replacing it with a low-cost SSD, as it will make a difference.

Sounds like a great deal, as long as it is just the HDD that's faulty and you are happy to open it up and install an SSD. I put one in a 2007 20 inch and it completely transformed it from very useless to very usable.
