Hi,
I have a 24" iMac with a 2.8 C2D, and would like to upgrade to a 27" iMac, I want to spend around £1500 and my options seem to be a refurb 2009 with an i7 or the new one with an i5.

I'm not very technically minded but from what I gather the older one with the i7 has the better processor, while the newer one has the better graphics card.

Does anyone know which one would perform better for use with photoshop CS5? Or should I wait for the results of some speed tests?

Whichever one I buy, I will be upgrading the ram to 8GB

Thanks for reading,

Julie

From wa
Hat people can tell so far there probably isn't going to be much difference between gpu's and the i7 is faster so personally I'd go for whichever is cheaper.

I think it would be better to go for the Core i7, the Core i5 does not have hyper threading, you would get faster rendering with the Core i7, but honestly, I'm a photoshop user aswell, I think unless you are dealing with very very large images, you would be fine with a Core i5 or even i3, I'm saying that as a web designer, but if you deal with a lot of print then it wouldn't be a bad idea going with the Core i5 or i7, and the 8GB memory will help since photoshop is very memory intensive app

Thanks for the replies, the i7 in the refurb store has just dropped to £1399 so ive bought one as it's well within my budget,
