Hi to all, hope every one is well & staying safe.
I'm new to this forum, new to the macos & the iMac world! So, please bare with me & I apologizes for any faux pas I might make! But I've run into a little problem with an imac and I'm hoping someone here can offer some advice.
I recently inherited a 2009 27" imac that is in really good shape and I've been enjoying playing around with it. I've spent a lot of time cleaning it up & familiarizing myself with how it and the macos works. My plan is to either dual boot with the macos & LINUX or just run Linux from an external usb drive. I've had no problem live booting to Linux or running Linux installed on an external HDD. Then I decided I'd like to try the dual boot route so I installed rEFInd as the boot manager. Everything worked fine, for a few days!
So here's the problem. The other day I did something wrong (can't remember exactly what), something bad happened and I had to reboot. When it rebooted not only was rEFind gone but the EFI boot option (option key @ power up) would no longer allow either the Linux live boot usb or the installed usb drive to boot up. It starts the EFI boot process ok but hangs at the round LINUX logo, just sits there and goes no further. It's as if something in boot manager is keeping Linux from completly loading. The Mac os still boots & works fine & I've confirmed that both the Linux live boot usb & Linux ext. drive are good on another computer.
I hoping someone can help me get back to where the EFI boot option works correctly. Any thoughts or questions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
