Hello, new to the forums here.
I have a 2009 27" imac i7 that is having fan issues.
I have recently upgraded to an SSD to put in there and have tried many things to try to solve the problem.
Before, the temp on my OCZ Agility 3 was read at 263ºF. After putting in an old imac temp sensor, shorting the original one, flipping the wires, the temp would not go down and the fans would still spin at top speeds. I decided to put in my ADATA SSD, which now reads a proper 80-90ºF, however the fan speeds will not diminish.
All temps inside the iMac are reading 105ºF and under, I have reset the SMC, the PRAM and NVRAM to no avail. SMC Fan control only offers minimum fan speeds, and HDD Fan control will only control the HD fan.
Currently the CPU fan runs at 4000, the HDD fan at 1200, and the Optical at 4000. My current system is now the original 3.5 platter in the HD slot and the ADATA in the optibay (was in the original slot before).
What options do I have left? I would love a hardware answer, but at this point will settle for mucking about in terminal if it comes to that.
Thanks!
EDIT: When booting off the SSD externally, the fans run normal.
FIXED: this is what fixed the problem--Upon opening up the display for the 80th time, the LCD temp sensor finally broke off, I replaced this with my old imac temp sensor.
Voila, fans are back to normal. To anyone else with the seemingly endless SSD problem, the LCD temp sensor apparently can also be a culprit in this case. (this wire was not the culprit until the SSD was there)
Thanks for everyone's help
