Hi, I hope someone can help, whilst reinstalling the os on my imac the install of the first disk went fine but when it asked for disk 2 it refused to eject disk 1. after trying lots of eject commands ie drutil etc in single user mode and trying to pry it out manually I have now opened up the mac and the optical drive and got the disk out. The problem is that on startup even with a boot drive (DiskMaker) it still returns to the insert disk 2 screen. I have just now disconected the drive and the same thing is happening ie it returns to the insert disk 2 screen and wont boot from the boot drive when selected in startup manager. can anyone suggest a solution please

Are these the original discs which came with this very iMac? Grey system install discs are very much for the machine they came with. TYhe same run of Mac models can have two, or three different system install discs depending on updates etc≥

Yes they are the originals

Is there a command line prompt in single user mode to disable optical drive?

You could make a USB drive instead that you can install the new OS from.

I have a late 2009 iMac which haven't had a SuperDrive installed for 5 years by now. I just use a thumb drive instead :)
