So my 2009 iMac won't sleep under Mountain Lion. Have tried the usual advice on Apple's site regarding resetting PRAM etc. I have copied what appears in Console when I try to get it to sleep. Wondering if anyone had any ideas...

I have a late 2009 27-inch iMac running 10.8.1 that is doing the same sort of thing. If I select Sleep from the Apple menu, it sleeps just fine. However, if I wait for it to go to sleep based on the settings in Energy Saver, it will just sit at the desktop all day long.

I tried the SMC reset and PRAM reset, to no avail. I eliminated hardware failure as a possibility by booting back into Lion (10.7.4) on an external HD and after a few minutes the screen turns off and the computer sleeps as specific in Energy Saver.

It's a weird one. I'm hoping that 10.8.2 will fix it as that's due out in a few weeks (to coincide with iOS 6). That said, if anyone has any ideas, I'm game.

Are either of you using network sharing?

Yes, I am. I have two iMacs in the house. iMac 2 hosts a shared folder that iMac 1 connects to on occasion. Do you think it could be related?

iMac 1 = 27-inch iMac model 11,1 OSX 10.8.1 will not sleep unless set manually
iMac 2 = 21.5-inch iMac model 10,1 OSX 10.8.1 sleeps like a baby after 15 mins idle

Maybe. It would be normal for the host computer not to sleep so that there is a constant connection to the other computer

... my 2009 iMac won't sleep under Mountain Lion.
I had the same with my previous "Late 2009" iMac and OS X 10.6 and 10.7. In my case it obviously had to do with one or some of my attached USB devices because when I disconneced all of them Sleep worked just fine. I never went through the devices methodically to find out which one exactly caused this. You might want to try whether disconnecting all USB devices also makes a difference in your case.

I've had the same problem for 3 weeks, tried everything and just got help solving it - in my case there was a file in the printer queue waiting to print, and that was keeping the computer from sleeping!
