2009 Mac Mini SSD or External HDD

Has anyone used a SSD as their internal HD, I am sure it would make the Mini boot faster, but what is the other performance like because I am thinking of getting an SSD for internal Boot Disk.


Also has anyone been able to boot from an external hard drive using FW800 because with the 3.5" drives being faster I have an external that I might consider booting from, but I am not sure you can install and OSX boot partition on an external and boot from it.

There is a user around here that put an SSD in his Mini and he gave a thorough review. I will poke around and see if I can find it.

As far as an external drive being faster - I can't imagine a FW800 connection would be faster than the internal bus.
 
Definitely get 32GB or 64GB SSD inside. It'll be so much faster. Store your media and files to external and use them from there
 
I am looking at getting this one, it has to be faster then a 2.5" 7200RPM HDD, so I figure OSX and Applications installed on SSD, everything else to reside on external Drive using FW800.

My mini is a 2009 Unit with the 2.0Ghz, 4GB and 9400M so I think the SSD will make performance better from an OSX and Application loading point of view.

Has anyone noticed with the new Version of iTunes it seems to start slow, in fact with each new version mine is getting slower and slower.

because with 7200 rpm your mini could die in summer

here in Madrid with >40º is not good idea... :eek:

I propose you wait. I have the new mini too and I will wait until ssd prices will be for example the 200 giga cost... 300 euro! :)

It's something like +10 Celsius here in Finland and I have problems keeping my iMac warm ;) I hate Finland's summer....

I feel envy!

In the past when I still didnt meet the macs and suffer windows OS... I was trying overclock my pc...
open the window when outside in Bilbao we had -2 º c
You live in the paradise of the overclockers!

Now with my 2500 euro macpro I cant play to those leagues!
 
overclock is good for your mac´s healthy

Because you will avoid that your computer and you freeze in room (A joke of course... NEVER do that kind of thing...)
your computer can work 10% faster yes and you could lose all the data in your hard disk too!:(
