2009 Mac Pro and fsp power booster for gtx 580 video card

I have a 2009 Mac Pro, with a Quadro 4000 Mac video card. I'm looking into adding a GTX 580 video card (from macvidcards.com). It says ill need to add another psu, to avoid damage to my mac. Done a lot of reading, some older posts.

I'm wondering if its simply as easy as adding a fsp booster 5x?

It fits in my open 5.25 bay, and only need an empty 4 pin molex, to connect the old psu to the new expander. I've looked up articles and reviews on this, and it seems to do what I need, I'm just wondering, since all the reviews I've read put this in a PC, should I have any issues in a Mac Pro?

Does the Mac Pro have 4 pin molex? I thought I read someplace that 2008 Mac pros did, but 2009 had 6 pin connectors. If it doesn't have the 4 pin, can I get a 6 pin to 4 pin connector, and hook it this way?

From my understanding, the only thing this 4 pin connector is for, is to trigger the fsp booster on, when the regular psu turns on.

There are threads here that already cover this in a lot of detail. To quickly answer your question, yes it will work. You'll need a SATA-to-Molex adapter because the power in the optical bay is SATA. You'll also need to find a way to route the AC power cord out of the optical bay and then out of the computer itself.

Thanks for your fast reply reply. This particular power supply comes with an adapter, that you mount to an extra expansion bay slot. It has the wall outlet power cable connection there. So you route from 5.25 bay, to expansion slot, and that's it. You then take the wall outlet plug, and it connects in back of the Mac, at the expansion card slot.

Thanks for the fast reply. This particular psu, routes its wall outlet cable through a pci expansion card. So getting the power cable out wont be an issue
