After a major coffee incidence triggered by my offspring, my late 2009 Mini is beyond repair.

Considering the bad receptions newer Minis have received here so far, I was wondering whether a 2009 Mini is really superior to the current product line.

Would you guys recommend to buy a 2009 (8 GB / 1 TB for like 300-400$) instead of a 2014 one as a replacement?

Thanks a lot for all serious replies in advance :)

No I wouldn't. The 2009 is really dated in my opinion and in no way superior to the 2014 lineup. The 2011 model still holds up well, especially the one with a dedicated GPU. So either that or the 2012 model which has USB3 as well.
You should be able to find a good deal on those if you look around.

The 2012 is a much more economical and in my opinion better deal than the 2014 and major improvements will be coming with Broadwell/Skylake within the next year or 2.
You will always be able to get your money back on the 2012 whereas this is unknown for the 2014s.
