My 2009 4,1 -> 5,1 Mac Pro won't turn on as of this morning. It's totally dead. Pressing power button does nothing. The past two nights prior to this morning, the computer shut off on its own during the night while in sleep mode and I had to turn it back on in the morning. It shut off on it's own last night, and now it won't turn on at all. Other than this, I've had no issues with it in 8 years. Does this sound like a power supply issue? I went ahead and ordered a new (used) power supply because I want to get it running ASAP and I can't think of what else could be causing this.

Thanks for any help.

I don't have specific issues with this (my MP 2009 is still going...) but a power supply would be my guess. But just to check, the outlet it's plugged into works, right?

Yeah I checked the outlet, unplugged and plugged everything back in. Also pulled the processor tray out and put it back to makes sure everything was connected property.

Sounds like it could be the PSU but while you're waiting for the replacement I would try to pull out the processor tray and re-seat all your ram. When you push the tray back in it will re-seat. Then re-seat any PCIe cards and SATA drives. Just pull them and push them back in. Check for dust accumulation, give everything a good blow-out if necessary and hope for the best. Let us know how it goes.

worth swamping the fuse in the power cable and if your using an extension plug swap it for a different one (and even using a different outlet).

Thanks for the advice guys.

I replaced the battery on the motherboard with a CR 2032. Tried using a different outlet as well. No changes.

Waiting on the new PSU...

Update: So it was the power supply. Just booted up find and I'm writing this post on it. I just put the new one in today after a bad ebay deal where the seller didn't ship (got a refund) and being out of town for awhile. Thanks to everyone who responded earlier. This 9 year old computer keeps kicking.
