2010/12 (5.1) and watching iTunes HD (HDCP?)

Have a 3.1 with ATI HD 2600. Just got a new monitor ViewSonic (VP2770-LED) and would like to view HDCP content. Does the Apple ATI 5770 (video card in the 2010/12[5.1]) support HDCP (used in a 3.1)? I know the Windows ATI 5770 supports HDCP but I can't find any definitive info on the Apple ATI 5770 supporting HDCP.

Can anyone with a 2010/12 (5.1) w/ATI 5770 confirm that it works (you must also have an HDCP complaint monitor) and you can watch iTunes HD (VUDU HDX)?

Also is anyone using the 2008 upgraded to the ATI 5770 with an HDCP compliant monitor (DVI or DisplayPort) and can confirm?

It supports HDCP through DVI. DVI doesn't carry audio, so you have to figure something out about that.

Note apparently DVI DOES carry audio through some google searches.

I wish someone with a 2012 Mac Pro would chime in on watching HD content.

A little audio/DVI/HDMI/DP/Thunderbolt info. The DVI spec doesn't support (list) audio (because if was envisioned only as a replacement for VGA) however audio is inserted within the video stream in the "blanking" area (the empty space that separates frames) of the digital signal. So all digital video streams can carry audio, even over DVI.

I have the 5770, maybe i can try connecting it to a my projector which has a speaker...will get back when i have some free time.

Thanks, what model is your projector and is it HDCP compliant? Not interested in sound but if it will play DRMed HDCP content (like iTunes HD) through HDMI, DVI or DP (not using VGA adaptor).

It's an LG PA70G, and yes it supports HDCP. I play Blu-ray content via PS3 and HDMI with no problem.

Also from a quick google search, the Apple 5770 does support HDCP.

I don't see how Apple would take out HDCP from the card as the difference between Mac and PC cards is the EFI and the BIOS. They don't make big changes to the cards when they put in the EFI and usually something like HDCP is already embedded in the card and would actually cost Apple money to remove that feature.

However, I would also assume with an educated guess that the DVI-D and even the mini-DP port also supports HDCP through adapters to HDMI. I just don't have any iTunes HD content to test.

I watch HD Blu-ray on mine all the time. I have a 5870, so it shouldn't be any different. I'm connected via DVI.

Thanks, but I had read those 2 threads (I have Goole searched.......) and neither confirm HDCP over 5770.

Thanks for confirming I will now order a a 5770. I'm assuming you installed (or USB connect) a BD drive to your Mac Pro?
