2010 27" i5 temps?

What are average temps for the imac while doing very little (itunes, internet, pages)

i feel like mine may be getting kind of hot?

also, what are the upper temp limits for the imac?

i am going to be gaming via bootcamp and am wondering how hot is too hot and what is considered a normal load temp in the all-in-one machine?

The HDD is pretty darn hot, actually about as hot as you want to let it get, so I would look at disk utility and see if there is anything in the SMART status
 
are u saying my HDD is pretty darn hot? or that they get hot in general?

i tried bringing up my disk utility and didnt see what u were looking for... how do i see the SMART utility?

Yours looks like it is running a bit too hot. I looked at disk utility and I must have been thinking of another program that I had. I'd ask apple about it.
 
I only see temperatures that high when I have been playing some game for a while, or after Handbraking. But my ambient is lower also (around 12*C or so, the times I've bothered to check the temperatures).

Was that screenshot taken after/during some serious work (for the computer)? Or just while sitting around idling?

I'm really curious to see what happens during Summer, whent the ambient here (inside) will get to above 30*C. I have the standard 27" 4-core i5.

I was just syncing my iPod touch n iPad while using safari and iTunes. Nothing too serious. I just set up boot camp for gaming but am worried that games may take that temp a lot higher n be more dangerous. I'll c what the temp is tomorrow about thirst minutes after waking it up. I too have the i5-760 2010 27" iMac.

ill look into smfancontrol to boost it before gaming in boot camp.

how does it really work?

do you manually increase the fan speeds on the mac side, and then reboot into windows (without shutting the comp down)?

one you're done gaming and you reboot into osx, do you need to turn the fan controls back to normal? or will that be automatically done? do the fan controls automatically reset if the comp is shut down too?

finally, how do u reboot in windows without having to shut down holding option to boot into windows?

I got my 27" i5 home this afternoon and, after about an hour of using it, there was a distinct smell of warm metal in my room...!

This seemed to dissipate, and I haven't had any performance problems. These machines do run pretty hot, though.
 
I was also a bit worried about the temperature of my iMac. I installed smcFancontrol and since then my temperatures are a lot lower, from a high of 47℃ to 35℃. This with playing iTunes and surfing the web.
 
o wow, thats a pretty big difference...

did you notice any difference in ambient noise due to the increase in fan speeds?

is this something you have always running? so does your computer boot up with the fans spinning faster to keep it cooler or do u have to manually start it every time u boot up?

So far no noise, running speed 1995 rpm, and yes the fans kick in on startup.
I must say that I am very impressed with smcFancontrol.:apple:
 
Those temperatures are well within the normal range. Don't worry at all.
 
For reference, Here are my i7 under bootcamp before and after "turbo mode" being used. (3.2 Ghz)

What were u doing at the time the results were taken and what is the cause of the dramatic decrease in temps?

Over what duration of time was this test taken?
And were these the temps of the hdd or CPU?

But wow thats pretty hot. Looks like I have nothing to worry about.

Do you have to manually turn on turbo boost? I thought it was something that was already set up and kicks in when needed.

- Video editing
- Stopped video editing & Increased fan speed
- 60 minutes
- HHD was stable 50 degress, down to 40 afterwards
- Turbo boost is automatic, editing my home movies is the only thing I can do to get the boost. No other apps or games get close.

These temperatures are normal. (70 Degrees on an i7 at 100% load)
