Hi all,

I have both a 27 Inch and 21.5 Inch 2010 iMac. I was wondering if it is possible to use the video card from the 21.5 inch one in the 27 inch imac?

Thank you

Can you give more information about the two models?

I believe if the 21" GPU was an option for that model 27" iMac, it should work, just swap them.

But, why would you want to put the 21" GPU in the 27" iMac?
[doublepost=1566942204][/doublepost]Also, swapping the video card requires removing the logic boards, very doable, but just know what you are getting into.

Hi Vertical...The 21" iMac screen doesn't work. The 27" is still a great machine, but it has a graphic card that will not allow me to upgrade to Mojave. (I was able to upgrade to Mojave using dosdudes tool) The 21" is the i3 3.06Ghz with the ATI Raedon HD 4670. (11,2) The 27" is the i3 3.2 Ghz with the ATI Raedon HD 5670. (11,3) I also need to get into the 27" to redo the thermal paste. (It can get pretty hot, as is the case with that model)

I understand now.

I am not sure if that would work. Usually people want to go the opposite direction when upgrading their iMac's GPU, but I think most would consider going from the 5670 to the 4670 as a downgrade.

But, I understand why you want to do it.

I have a Mid-2011 27" iMac, and it gets really hot too.

My friend found it in the trash, and he couldn't get it to boot. He gave to me to see if I could get it fixed.

I got it to boot, but the GPU was fried. An interesting thing was that it was a Maxed out BTO iMac, with the i7, 2GB 6970M, 16GB RAM, and 2TB HDD. So, the best iMac you can get for that model.

I did a GPU bake and it appears like it has been fixed.

Pretty nice dumpster find.

What I was going to say about it is that it gets really hot, but after replacing the GPU's thermal pads and paste, and replaced the crazy hot HDD with an SSD, it stay much cooler, and I hardly ever hear the fans.
