My 2010 cMP has suddenly started randomly shutting down without any warning. The power simply cuts off completely. Watching temps on iStat just before this occurs I see nothing out of the ordinary (CPU temps around 50C, GPU temp around 65-70C). I reset the SMC and PRAM which didn't help. I don't see anything in the system logs indicating an issue. I took out the CPU tray and reseated all 6 RAM sticks. Nothing seems to help. Any ideas on what it could be or how I could research it further?

My thought is the power supply or the logic board.

Thanks for the recommendations. I took the CPU tray out one more time, and I noticed a small flake of (I'm guessing) aluminum near the multi pin connector. I also used a bit more force when reseating the tray. It seems, for the time being, to have solved the issue. It happened 3 times within an hour, but I used it for 3 hours straight without issue. Like you Auggie I have noticed times where the computer shuts itself down during sleep, so the PSU might be on the way out...

Are you using the stock GPU? You may want to check that the pcie power cables are properly seated.

Beyond a failing psu, hard shut downs are not uncommon among users with high wattage gpus running off the native mini six pins but may not be applicable here.

Yep, stock 5770. The power cable and the card are both seated well.
