MP 1,1-5,1 2010 CPUs in 2009 CPU card in 2010 Mac Pro

Do I need to flash any firmware to run two X5690s in a 2010 Mac Pro that has a CPU card from a 2009 Mac Pro, or is it plug and play?

A CPU tray from a 2009 is not compatible with the 2010/2012 machines.

Physically it will fit, but the fans will run at top speed. Also the 2009 cMP CPU trays use unlidded CPUs. Have your CPUs been delidded? Or are you planning on using spacers to mount your CPUs?

Basically a mismatch that you should not contemplate.

It will work he will just have to learn to enjoy the full speed fans at all times due to the mis-match of the trays.

No clue if that works, if able to program it with the newer version then it would work. But no one has ever done that I have hear of and if it were possible they would be doing it for certain and we would have known about it by now.
