Been offered a good price on a used 2.8 quad core i7 however for a little bit extra I can get a new 2.8 quad i5

I will be running logic but not sure if the i5 is better, same or worse due to the drop in numbers

The processors will be equivalent for general computing tasks, but the i7 will be faster for video encoding, heavily multi-threaded tasks, and possibly running virtual machines (like Windows in Parallels).

The Mid-2010 graphics card is 5-15% faster for most games.

Logic

If you run logic you want the i7.

This is what you see as far as the processor meters with an i7 machine:

Whereas with the i5 you see four bars not eight. Logic spreads its workload across the four real and four virtual cores and you essentially have the
capability of a quasi-8-core.
