Got my i7 2.93, 16gb, ssd+2tb today.
Has neither the yellow screen or brightness buzz issue.

Only problem is the base stand is ever so slightly bent.
Should not have to live with this on a $4500 machine.

Apple support closed at this hour.
Anyone else have experience with dealing with such issues? I saw a similar thread from awhile back but there was no conclusion.

Is Apple efficient enough to send me a new stand? - Should be an easy DIY, as option of having a VESA arm mount makes the stand easily removable.

Or is the system stupid enough to demand that I send the entire computer back.
Do I get some sort of compensation for this? $100-200 gift card?

I am very hesitant to send the whole thing back for many reasons, with all the issues being reported I was lucky to get a relatively problem free unit.
Did I mention its 50lbs?
Thank you.

They will probably ask for the entire machine back. Standard operating procedure as not everyone is technically minded to replace pats themselves. The chances of you getting a gift card are also small.

Wait untill you have to return your fourth machine then you can start demanding free gifts ;)

I believe it differs depending on who you talk to, but it doesn't sound impossible with DYI swap. I've not heard of this issue and I would suspect that the only thing to do is to talk to Apple about it.

Thank you stridemat and bolen for the quick responses.
Have a callback scheduled tomorrow.

Ironically I held off buying a late 2009 - that is, waited the last 8 months for them to fix the issues. Whilst being giddy that I received a machine not plagued by the common issues, I was extremely dismayed when I discovered the base stand damage.

Just today I finished swapping our iPhones for the 3rd time...

I love Apple products, but lately the quality control has really been lackluster.

I have it on a cloth now, so the problem is hidden, dont want to move the whole thing again.

On an added note, I just realized the serial numbers/etc are etched onto the base.

They will probably take the whole thing back, as I don't see them machining another one with these unique numbers.

This was likely caused by shipping...

Could you tell us the model number, other details about the SSD that it came with? I am guessing it is the 2008 Samsung that they use in the MBP...

The likelihood of you getting another bad unit is low. Everyone on here thinks the problems are so large scale, but you have to remember that most people here are here because they need a help with a problem.

Gift card? Why do you deserve one? They won't give you one, because theres no reason for them to give you one. These things happen, it could've happened in shipping.

They'll replace the whole unit, because they probably just don't trust you to fit the new stand lol.

SSD:
Capacity: 251 GB (251,000,193,024 bytes)
Model: APPLE SSD TS256B

Toshiba?
Same "TS" as my the 128gb SSD in my 13" macbook pro.

As for the regular HDD, I got the 2TB and its made by Hitachi.

I suppose I don't deserve anything. I am far from the very self-entitled whiners that I've seen here. But I do believe Apple should be in the business of making their customers happy.
A small gesture of good faith goes a long way, especially for those of us that have braved lines, and repeated visits to the store just to get a (working) apple product.

Anything else anyone want to know before this unit goes back?

Thanks for the info!

Doing a quick search I found this page about that SSD.

http://www.harddrivebenchmark.net/hdd_lookup.php?cpu=APPLE+SSD+TS256B

does anyone know if this is legit? And where would the OWC drives fit in?

Also, if you are sending it back and wouldn't mind running it through the paces, you could run DiskTester and seeing how the SSD performs as it gets full...

No worries if you don't feel like doing it though. I am sure OWC and the others will be doing it in a few days.

Update.

RMA authorized. Waiting for labels... 24 hours my ass.

Sorry no time to test brogueboy, have restored the computer the factory settings and packed it up.
Trying to get it out as soon as possible so my new one will ship out.

Why would you get a gift card? That is kinda ridiculous.

Now if you called, they said something like "Hey you *****, you broke your computer and we are going to come throw poop on you door." you might then be entitled to something. But for a bent stand??? How do we know you didn't bend it trying to set it up?
